This policy describes what jointhelongrun.com and The Long Run (operated from California, United States) collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. It covers the website, the newsletter and playbook signup forms, and the application form. It is written to be read.
What we collect
Three buckets, in the order you would meet them:
Newsletter signup. When you request the playbook or join the list, we collect your email address. That is the whole bucket.
Application. The application form collects what you type into it: the student's name, age, email, city and time zone, written answers to three questions, optionally how you heard about the course, and optionally a parent or guardian's name and email. To be clear about that last part: students here are adults ages 18 to 22, and parent contact details are those of an adult applicant's parent, collected so families can be part of the conversation. If you email us directly, we receive what you send.
Texts, if we ever offer them. We do not currently run a text-message program. If we launch one and you opt in, we will collect your phone number and your message history with us, use them only to run the program, and never sell them.
Enrollment. When a student enrolls, we additionally collect what is needed to run the class: contact details, records of payment (handled by a payment processor; we never see or store card or bank numbers), attendance, and session recordings as described in the Terms of Service.
What we don't do
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for advertising, run advertising trackers, or use third-party advertising cookies. We do not buy data about you or add to what you give us from third-party sources. We do not send marketing email to anyone who did not sign up for it. In the language of California law: we have not sold or shared personal information, as those terms are defined there, in the preceding twelve months.
Service providers
Your information passes through a short, named list of providers, each under its own privacy policy: Vercel hosts the site and provides its analytics. Kit (kit.com) stores the newsletter list and sends our emails. Formsubmit.co relays application form submissions to our inbox. Google Workspace is our email. Zoom runs the live classes and their recordings. When payments launch they will be handled by a payment processor such as Stripe, which receives payment details directly. We share with these providers only what each needs to do its job, and with authorities only if the law requires it.
Analytics, cookies, and local storage
The site uses Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it counts visits using a temporary hash rather than a persistent identifier, and does not track you across other sites. The site sets no advertising or cross-site cookies. It uses browser local storage for one thing: remembering that you closed the playbook popup so it does not reappear. That flag contains no personal information and clearing your browser storage removes it. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from Google's servers when the page loads.
Because we do not track visitors across sites, the site treats your browser’s Global Privacy Control signal as a standing opt-out of any sale or sharing of personal information (see Your privacy choices below); today there is nothing for it to stop, and it is honored all the same. The site does not respond differently to older "Do Not Track" signals.
How we use information
Email addresses on the list are used to deliver the playbook and to send the newsletter and course updates. Application information is used to review the application, hold the admission conversation, and communicate about it. Enrollment information is used to operate the class, communicate with students and their families, honor the guarantee, and improve the course. Recordings are used as described in the Terms of Service.
Email and unsubscribing
Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link that works with one click and no questions. Unsubscribing is honored promptly and always within ten business days. Transactional email about your own application or enrollment is not marketing and continues while we work together.
Your rights and choices
Email us and we will tell you what we hold about you, give you a copy of it in a usable format, correct it, or delete it. We honor deletion requests except where the law requires us to keep a record (for example, records of payment). We extend these rights to everyone, not only where a statute requires it. If you are unhappy with how we handle a request, reply and say so and a human will look again; you may also contact your state attorney general. California residents: this site is operated from California and this policy is written to California's online-privacy disclosure requirements; we are a small business below the thresholds of the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we honor access, correction, and deletion requests anyway, as described here.
California disclosures
For readers who want the formal mapping: in the preceding twelve months we have collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (name and email, plus phone number if you opt into a future text program); characteristics (age); approximate location (city and time zone); written content you submit (application answers and emails); audio and visual information (session recordings, for enrolled students); and commercial information (records of payment, held by our payment processor). Every category comes from you directly, is used for the purposes described above, is disclosed only to the service providers named above, and is neither sold nor shared for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Advertising status: as of the date at the top of this page, we do not sell or share personal information. When we begin running advertising, ad-platform tools (pixels and similar technologies) may count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. The categories involved would be identifiers and internet activity, disclosed to the advertising platform involved. The opt-out for that sharing already exists and is described under Your privacy choices below; it is in force before any advertising starts, not after.
Your privacy choices
California residents, and everyone else because the distinction is silly at our size, may: know what personal information we hold and receive a copy of it; correct it; delete it; opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information; and limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the course, and we do not currently sell or share personal information, so today the opt-outs have nothing to stop; they stand ready for the day they do.
To exercise any of these: email amit@jointhelongrun.com. We verify requests by matching the details you provide against what we hold, respond within 45 days (extendable once by another 45 days with notice), and will never treat you differently for exercising a right. An authorized agent may submit a request for you with your written permission. Your browser's Global Privacy Control signal is honored as a valid opt-out of sale and sharing without any further steps from you.
Retention
Newsletter emails stay on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you. Applications that do not lead to enrollment, including essays and any parent contact details, are deleted within twelve months of the close of their admission cycle. Enrollment records are kept as long as needed to operate the course and meet legal obligations. Cohort session recordings are kept while they serve the purposes described in the Terms of Service, and a student's request to exclude their likeness from public use is honored for all uses going forward.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, access to the data described here is limited to the people who run the course, and we choose established providers. No internet transmission is perfectly secure, and we do not promise otherwise; we promise care.
Children
The course is for adults 18 to 22. The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them; if we learn we have, we will delete it. Parent and guardian information we hold belongs to parents of adult applicants, not to children.
Where this applies
The course and site are directed to residents of the United States, and information is processed and stored in the United States. We do not target the course to residents of other countries.
Changes
We may update this policy; the version on this page governs from its posted date, and the date at the top changes when the policy does. If a change materially affects subscribers or enrolled students, we will say so by email.
